Skopje, 9 March 2024 (MIA) – The challenges are great, but so are the opportunities, what matters is that the right person holds the right post, said the presidential candidate of the Democratic Union for Integration and current Foreign Minister, Bujar Osmani, at a party convention Saturday in Skopje where the party promoted Osmani’s presidential bid.

At the event, Osmani pledged to use all of his experience as diplomat to fight for a better situation in the country.

“Our future is in the EU and we must achieve this for the citizens. We must halt the emigration of young people, we must invest in the economy, we must invest in education in line with the global standards,” said Osmani.

He noted that he has received “the overall foreign support”.

After Osmani, the event was addressed by DUI leader Ali Ahmeti.

“We have never lost 23 years. Mathematically or practically, we have had support even during the most difficult times. We’ve invested in the capacities and in the personnel for a better tomorrow, and we will continue to do so. It’s not easy to compete with us. Everyone who opens new horizons is here. We are stability and peace and a good, European future,” said Ahmeti.

Talat Xhaferi had a brief speech at the event, Fatmir Besimi also addressed the attendees before the beginning of the convention.

According to the State Election Commission, Osmani has secured his place in the presidential race by collecting the required 10.000 signatures. The Commission’s latest data shows he managed to collect 11.085 signatures by 8pm on March 7.

Osmani said that the topics of his campaign will include the constitutional amendments for the inclusion of Bulgarians, as well as the election of the country’s president in the Parliament. He said he expects to enter the second round. The current Foreign Minister said he worked on his platform with domestic and international experts, as a presidential candidate he said he would have his own website and address all citizens regardless of their ethnicity.
