Skopje, 1 July 2022 (MIA) - The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) said Friday it welcomes the constructive role of the French presidency in finding an acceptable solution to the dispute of the country with Bulgaria. "The proposal containing ideas for a solution is a solid basis to settle the dispute and unblock our European path," the junior government coalition partner says in a press release. Our country, DUI notes, is faced with a historic decision, one involving the opening of negotiations with the EU and closing all open issues with the neighbors. "We believe that such chances for compromise that are not a threat to the identity, language and national dignity of our Macedonian citizens shouldn't be missed for a progressive future of the country and the region." We, said the press release, launch a process of consultations, which require maturity and rationality like never before. "DUI remains consistent to its positions on a solution to the dispute with Bulgaria. Thus, we believe the French proposal is within the allowed frameworks of rational compromise," said the press release adding the French proposal has the backing of Washington, Brussels, Paris, London, Rome and other Western capitals.
