DUI ends local election campaign at Gostivar rally

DUI ends local election campaign at Gostivar rally
Skopje, 15 October 2021 (MIA) — Describing the candidate for mayor of Gostivar as “a missionary who accomplishes our mission,” DUI leader Ali Ahmeti urged residents to vote for Nevzat Bejta, and the mayoral candidate promised he would be a mayor of all citizens. In his speech, Ahmeti also spoke of DUI’s achievements in the government and added they safeguarded the interests of the Albanians in the country. “Our agenda is European, it is the future,” the DUI leader said. “Our platform is life-sustaining health, so your support should be unreserved. We are opening a new chapter, just as we took the oath in 2002 when we took our weapons off our belts and entered politics.” “We now have a new mission, with missionaries you will not regret supporting. Nevzat Bejta, he knows this, he's ready and he knows how to give the city what it needs,” Ahmeti added. Mayoral candidate Bejta accused his opponent of undermining hygiene in the city and allowing illegal landfills to exist, casinos to open, and stray dogs to roam the streets. “I promise to be mayor of all citizens: Albanians, Macedonians, Turks, and all others living in this area. I’ve made mistakes, like everyone else, but I’ve always had honest intentions. I am not running for my career, I am running for citizens, for all citizens,” Bejta said. “I believe we are all brothers and sisters here in Gostivar and we live in mutual respect. These local elections give us the choice to build a better place for all of us to live in," he said. It was the final rally of the Democratic Union for Integration's election campaign, and it was attended by the party leadership including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Political System and Inter-Community Relations Artan Grubi and Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, who also addressed the audience. mr/
