Drexler: North Macedonia more attractive for German investors after joining NATO

Skopje, 29 September 2023 (MIA) – When North Macedonia became the 30th member of NATO in 2020, it was initially celebrated by the politicians. Only two years later, when Russia launched its aggression against Ukraine, businessmen started talking about the significance of NATO membership. North Macedonia became more attractive as a location for German investors, because it became a part of a security system, said German Ambassador to North Macedonia Petra Drexler at the traditional working breakfast with the companies that are a part of the German-Macedonian Business Association.

According to the Ambassador, the country’s future largely depends on how much its youth believes in its sustainability.

“Of course this is mainly a political task and politics should tackle this challenge. But, I also see the role of the economic actors here as well. The German companies have made a significant contribution in the establishment of good framework conditions for a successful future in North Macedonia: through socially responsible measures, through investments in dual vocational education in the German example, and through their contribution in the green transformation. I hope that you will continue to do this in future as well, with the support of AHK North Macedonia,” stressed Drexler.

More than 70 members of the German-Macedonian Business Association had a chance to present their companies at the event.

The head of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK) in North Macedonia, Antje Wandelt, spoke about the importance of the support for the German companies and the cooperation with local partner companies in the realization of investment projects, as well as in the establishment of partnerships in building new global supply chains.

The working breakfast was organized by AHK North Macedonia, and the German-Macedonian Business Association.

With 155 companies as its members, the German-Macedonian Business Association is the largest bilateral business association in the country and represents an important platform for German and Macedonian companies.
