Draghi: Immediate opening of EU accession talks with N. Macedonia and Albania, giving new impetus to talks with Serbia and Montenegro
Strasbourg, 3 May 2022 (MIA) – Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Tuesday called for immediate opening of EU accession talks with North Macedonia and Albania, and giving new impetus to talks with Serbia and Montenegro, Beta reports. At a time when the EU strengthened unity and supported Ukraine in the fight against Russian offensive, full integration of countries showing European aspirations is not a threat to the European project, it is part of its implementation, Draghi said in an address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. He said Italy was in favor of immediate opening of EU accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia in line with the European Council decision of March 2020. “We want to give new impetus to talks with Serbia and Montenegro, and pay more attention to the legitimate expectations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo,” said Draghi. The Italian Prime Minister stressed support for EU entry of all these countries, as well as accession of Ukraine. “We must follow the entry path we have drawn but we must move as quickly as possible,” Draghi said.
