Skopje, 7 July 2022 (MIA) – Today or by tomorrow at the latest, a fairly significant legal text will be uploaded to the Single Electronic Register of Legislation – ENER, namely the draft version of the Criminal Code, said Minister of Justice Nikola Tupancheski at a press conference on Thursday. He explained this is one of the most significant legal texts and acts. “We decided conceptually, in line with the strategy for reform of the judicial sector, not to change segments of the Criminal Code, but to actually adopt a completely new Criminal Code, which would cover all segments of social life in the country,” explained Tupancheski. He added that a smaller group was formed, first in September 2019, then another one in December 2020, which, according to him, worked intensively on the drafting of the Criminal Code. Besides representatives of the Ministry of Justice, as part of the 40-person group there were also representatives of the academia, professors, representatives of the non-governmental sector, representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the judiciary, Ministry of Internal Affairs and all relevant parties which could contribute to the drafting of the new Criminal Code.
