Dimitrov: Let’s focus on building not destroying in coming period
Skopje, 11 November 2021 (MIA) – Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov has said that we have to focus on building not destroying in the coming period and it is a time for decisive decisions. “We had local elections and turned them into a political-parliamentary crisis. The opposition parties saw an opportunity to destroy something, but the situation didn’t turn out as they planned. As MP Kastriot Rexhepi put it, the chance for European integration was the main reason he withdrew, also saying he had communication with senior diplomats. It would be nice to focus on building not destroying in the coming period. It is a fact that our country is in a serious situation, amid a pandemic, worrying regional development, energy crisis, but we also have a chance for a breakthrough in the EU, and now we need decisive decisions,” Deputy PM Dimitrov told TV21. Asked about the decision-making process when there is no clear majority, Dimitrov says one would have to be found in order to take important decisions. According to him, much has been invested in recent years and it would be sad to give up now on the EU path. “Twenty-six member-states say it is time to start the accession negotiations, the European Commission says ‘no one will believe us in the Balkans if we fail in this’. Therefore, it would be sad to not have decision-makers in our country after the elections in Bulgaria and a much clearer situation there. This would be irresponsible on our part,” underlines Dimitrov.
