Dimitrievski: Sopot building is illegal construction built on state-owned land

Kumanovo, 7 November 2023 (MIA) — The building where top DUI members opened a Museum in the Kumanovo village of Sopot this weekend is an illegal construction, according to an inspection done by the local authorities.

According to Kumanovo Mayor Maksim Dimitrievski in a press release, the museum was built without a valid construction permit. He said it was built on state-owned agricultural land.

"The entire building is an illegal construction and the Municipality of Kumanovo has not issued any construction permit for it," Dimitrievski wrote.

Since during the inspection no one claimed to own or to have invested into the building, the Kumanovo mayor said the municipality would file its report on the illegal construction against "N.N." to the police.

"However, I also received information from the Department of Spatial Planning that a request for legalization for this plot was submitted by a natural person in 2018, so we will submit all that documentation as a subject of a future investigation," Dimitrievski said.

Commenting on Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski's statement that the museum was built on privately owned land, Dimitrievski said the prime minister had been misinformed.

"He should be better informed by the services he directly cooperates with," he said.

"I am also surprised by the silence of other competent institutions, such as the Ministry of the Interior, which is bound by law and by the Constitution to protect the constitutional order of the state and sanction anyone who incites interreligious, interethnic, and international confrontation," Dimitrievski said. mr/
