Deutsche Welle employee's relative shot by Taliban, says broadcaster
A relative of a journalist working for the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle has been shot dead by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, the broadcaster reported on Thursday. The Taliban had gone house to house in western Afghanistan searching for the journalist, who is now working in Germany, it said. A second family member was seriously hurt in the attack. Other relatives of the man were able to escape at the last second and are on the run, according to the Deutsche Welle. "The killing of a close relative of one of our editors by the Taliban is incredibly tragic and demonstrates the acute danger in which all our staff and their families find themselves in Afghanistan," said the broadcaster's director, Peter Limbourg. "The Taliban are apparently already conducting an organized search for journalists in Kabul and also in the provinces," he added. "Time is running out!"
