Deputy PM: Sofia and Skopje obliged to implement history commission agreements within two years based on reciprocity
Skopje, 17 August 2022 (MIA) - The protocol that was signed last month places an obligation on North Macedonia and Bulgaria to implement the achieved results based on reciprocity within two years, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj at a press conference Wednesday regarding the recommendations of the joint commission for historical and educational issued, aligned by both the Macedonian and Bulgarian side.
"The protocol signed last month states that either government must implement the results within two years. Of course, this will be implemented in phases and through institutional filters. The Commission must determine points and narrative texts for joint observations and possible textbook correction, i.e., it's only valid if we implement them together in either system," Marichikj said in response to a reporter's question at the press conference.
He said that the historians are in charge of the contents of the agreements, but that it's worth mentioning that seven top historians are members of the Commission, who had agreed the text about Tzar Samuel.
"We fully support the Commission's work, and we will help as much as we can as an institution. We will be careful to protect our interests, because we trust those who work there, and all steps will be coordinated with our institutional filters and textbook committees. We will not take a single step unilaterally, so everything we do, we expect Sofia to do as well," Deputy PM Marichikj said. dk/ba/
