Deputy PM Marichikj, German Ambassador discuss “promising” approach to solving bilateral open issues
Skopje, 20 January 2022 (MIA) – Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj met Thursday with German Ambassador Anke Holstein for talks on the progress made in reform implementation as well as the new approach taken to settle open issues with Bulgaria.
Deputy PM Marichikj said that the new approach – called promising adding a new value to North Macedonia’s efforts to join the EU by both Marichikj and Holstein – will introduce a change of the atmosphere between the nations of the two countries.
“The visit by the German Minister of State for Europe Anna Lührmann on the day the new government took office confirmed Germany’s position of the EU integration of our country and the Western Balkans. It is our duty now to continue pursuing the reform agenda and work on finding a solution to the open issues with Bulgaria in a good neighborly, transparent and inclusive way,” he said.
Germany, said Ambassador Holstein, remains a strong supporter of North Macedonia on its EU integration path and an observer of the process for implementing the reform agenda in the country.
