Deputy PM Grubi meets Canadian Ambassador Norman

Skopje, 8 November 2023 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Political System and Inter-Community Relations Artan Grubi met Wednesday with Canada’s Ambassador to North Macedonia, Giles Norman, discussing the screening process, constitutional amendments, EU integration, upcoming elections, and situation in the region.

The Ministry of Political System said in a press release that Minister Grubi expressed gratitude for Canada's continued support to the partnership within NATO, the prospect of resuming EU membership negotiations through the constitutional amendments, once the screening process is complete.

"EU membership is the only and fair option for all countries in the region, while constitutional amendments are the next step to continue this journey," Grubi said.

He added that regular elections are expected to take place next year to confirm citizens' support for North Macedonia's European future.

Ambassador Norman said that North Macedonia is recognized as a serious and reliable partner that significantly contributes to the peace and security in the region, reads the press release.

Interlocutors also discussed the security situation in the region with a special emphasis on the Belgrade-Pristina situation, noting that the two Western Balkan countries belong to the broader European family and that all countries must strive for prosperity and a secure future. ssh/ik/
