Washington, 21 December 2023 (MIA) - The United States encourages the Government of North Macedonia at every level to take necessary steps for the best possible future of the country, the Department of State has told MIA.

"This includes reforms in the judicial, health, education, and other sectors that will pave the way for full integration into the EU," said a State Department spokesperson.

On the US diplomacy's efforts in overcoming the impasse regarding the constitutional amendments as a prerequisite for the EU accession negotiations, the spokesperson said the upcoming elections would give the answer.

"We hope that in the upcoming elections voters will ask for transparency and accountability from their elected officials, and demand the stronger, better, and more prosperous country they deserve," said the spokesperson and added that U.S. Ambassador Angela Aggeler is constantly engaged on these issues, whereas Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Assistant Secretary James O’Brien also spoke of the path forward for the people of North Macedonia during their recent visit to Skopje.
