Demand for popular bond 80 percent higher than proposed amount, says Finance Ministry

Skopje, 7 November 2023 (MIA) – The second issue of the popular bond has been successfully realized, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release, adding that Tuesday’s auction saw 907 citizens invest a total of Mden 1.085.480.000 (EUR 17.7 million) in the popular bond, which is 1.8 times higher than the amount published in the Prospectus for the second issue of the bond.

“This demonstrates that the popular bond has already become recognizable among the citizens and has found its place on the market. After the first issue during which the interest was 2.4 times higher than the published amount, the interest continued with the second issue as well, and the citizens are already interested in when the next issue will be,” said Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi in a written statement.

Besimi added that the citizens will receive the interest yield of their investment on November 14, 2024, for the first year, and on November 14, 2025, for the second year, when they will receive their complete investment.

“The popular bond provides the citizens with certainty and security for their invested funds, as well as an attractive interest rate, through which they are protecting the value of their money. On the other hand, they are also investing in the country’s development, since the funds received from the popular bond, as well as from the other bonds planned with the Plan for Accelerated Economic Growth and the Public Debt Management Strategy, are directed towards the realization of development projects,” stressed Minister Besimi.

The popular bond is a new financial instrument which the Ministry of Finance introduced in July 2023.
