Skopje, 30 September 2022 (MIA) – The Army of North Macedonia is an entirely professional Army and thus far there are no plans, nor consultative processes for the reintroduction of mandatory conscription, said the Ministry of Defense Friday, in a press release. The decision to have a professional army, said the Ministry, will remain valid, at the same time fulfilling all of the country’s obligations arising from its NATO membership. “The Ministry of Defense is an institution in which every professional has the right, the opportunity, but also the obligation to express its position and to have it heard. If there is sufficient public interest, the Ministry is open to discuss any issue, including this one,” read the press release. Earlier, President Stevo Pendarovski said the state’s top leaders haven’t neither considered conscription recently nor it is open as an opportunity in the future. ad/ba/
