Deepening cooperation with Estonia in geology and mining

Skopje, 8 November 2024 (MIA) - The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources and the National Geological Survey hosted a working meeting with a delegation from Estonia composed of prominent experts in the geological and mining fields. According to the Ministry, talks focused on exchange of ideas and initiatives towards deepening cooperation, as well as sharing good practices in the regulation and development of these sectors, with an emphasis on strengthening the legal framework and the institutional exchange of knowledge.

Minister Sanja Bozhinovska stressed that Macedonia is committed to promoting the regulatory framework and practices in mining and geology, with the aim of achieving the highest European standards and sustainable development of the industry.

"It is our priority to build a resilient and sustainable mining sector, aligned with our environmental and economic goals," said Minister Bozhinovska. 

Director of the Geological Survey of Estonia, Sirli Sipp Kulli, praised the Macedonian regulatory framework in this area.

"We are really impressed by the strong legal framework that Macedonia has established in this sector. We hope to use your experiences to improve our legislation in the field of geology and mining," Kulli said. 

Minister Bozhinovska thanked for the visit and the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience, highlighting Macedonia's commitment to the development of the geological and mining industry with a responsible and sustainable approach.

"Cooperation and sharing expertise and best practices help us achieve our goals and contribute to the economic growth and development of our country," said the Minister, noting that she expects this cooperation to grow into an ongoing exchange of knowledge and experience in the future.

In addition, the two delegations discussed possibilities for joint projects in the area of geological research, development of new technologies in mining and initiatives for environmental protection. Interlocutors expressed readiness to continue cooperation and to exchange knowledge and resources, with the aim of promoting this strategic area for the two countries.

"The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources remains open to new initiatives and cooperation that will enable further strengthening of the geology and mining sector, contributing to the economic and environmental development of the country," reads the press release.
