Sydney, 14 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The mass shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach was "designed to target Sydney's Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah," New South Wales premier Chris Minns said.

"What should have been a night of peace and joy celebrated in that community with families and supporters, has been shattered by this horrifying evil attack," he said at a press conference.

"Our heart bleeds for Australia's Jewish community," Minns said, describing the shooting as a terrorist attack.

Witnesses said that hundreds of people had gathered at the famed beach to mark the start of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah on Sunday.

Police say 12 people, including one of the attackers, were killed, with a further 29 people injured.
