De Ligt and Mazraoui leaving Munich for Manchester United

Munich, 14 August 2024 (dpa/MIA) — Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are moving from Bayern Munich to Manchester United, both clubs announced on Tuesday.

The clubs did not disclose the terms of the transfer.

De Ligt will reportedly earn the Munich club a fixed transfer fee of €45 million, and Mazraoui a transfer fee of €15 million. Bonus payments would be added on top.

In Manchester, de Ligt has a contract until the summer of 2029 with an option for a further year. Mazraoui signed until the summer of 2028, also with an option to extend for an additional year.

"Matthijs is a player who always gives his all and leaves his heart on the pitch - fans will never forget his decisive tackle in the Champions League knockout match against Paris St. Germain, among others," Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl said.

"In the same way, Nous has always performed reliably here for two years," Eberl added.

De Ligt said goodbye to the Bayern Munich fans with emotional words on Instagram. "It was a great honour for me to have played for a wonderful club like FC Bayern for two years," he wrote. He wished the club many more titles.

De Ligt moved to Munich from Juventus Turin two years ago for a transfer fee of around €70 million.

Mazraoui also moved to Munich from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2022. The Moroccan international was on a free transfer at the time, but was too inconsistent in his performances.

In Manchester, the duo will meet their former coach at Ajax Amsterdam, Erik ten Hag.
