Dashtevski: SEC fully prepared for Wednesday’s presidential elections

Skopje, 23 April 2024 (MIA) - The State Election Commission (SEC) is fully prepared for Wednesday’s presidential elections, said SEC President Aleksandar Dashtevski at a session Tuesday.

“We are fully prepared for tomorrow. And the preparations never stop, we are constantly communicating with people,” Dashtevski said.

Dashtevski clarified that citizens will be able to vote at Wednesday’s elections with a valid identification document, ID or passport with the old constitutional name of the country, as well as an ID or passport whose validity has expired in the nine-month period before election day, i.e., since July 24, 2023, for Wednesday’s election day.

He also stated that the voting of the infirm, inmates, people in retirement homes and diaspora is proceeding smoothly.

“Voting is running smoothly and is ongoing and we will have that information by tonight. Somewhere it has ended, but it lasts until 7pm. After the end of the vote today, SEC will publish information about the turnout, while the results will be collected and published tomorrow with the rest,” Dashtevski said.

At Tuesday’s session SEC also accredited new observers for the presidential and parliamentary elections. The total number of observers rose to 1.601, of which 915 domestic and 544 foreign, as well as 84 translator and 58 foreign journalists.
