Customs officers seize undeclared watches; silver jewelry; clothing

Skopje, 21 November 2023 (MIA) — Customs agents at the Tabanovce, Bogorodica and Blace border crossings over the past weekend seized undeclared goods worth 500,000 denars, including 33 watches, 2.7 kg of silver jewelry, and 160 pieces of clothing, the Customs Administration said in a press release.

 

This prevented the customs duty evasion of about 150,000 denars, the release notes.

 

 

At the Tabanovce border crossing with Serbia, customs agents found 160 pieces of undeclared clothing on a bus traveling from Belgrade to Skopje.

 

The clothing was stowed under seats and in a hidden compartment above the rear right wheels on the bus.

 

 

At the Bogorodica border crossing with Greece, a married couple tried to smuggle about 2.7 kilograms of silver jewelry when entering the country.

 

Customs agents found 37 packages of silver jewelry stashed in pockets of clothes packed in suitcases. They also founds the jewelry receipts in the vehicle.

 

At the Blace border crossing with Kosovo, customs agents found 33 watches hidden in black bags behind the passenger seat of a car.

 


Misdemeanor charges have been filed against the smugglers of the watches and clothes.

 

A criminal charge was filed against the silver jewelry smugglers, and their vehicle was seized together with the jewelry. They were also issued a fine of 2,500 euros, the release says. mr/
