Skopje, 18 March 2024 (MIA) – As part of a two-day joint action, the Customs Administration and the Ministry of Interior seized 22 motor vehicles with foreign registration plates that were driven by Macedonian nationals, the Customs Administration said in a press release Monday.
“Vehicles from various manufactures have been seized, including four ‘Mercedes’ passenger vehicles, three ‘Audi’ passenger vehicles, two ‘BMW’ passenger vehicles, one ‘Tesla’ freight vehicle. All vehicles were driven by Macedonian national on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia for more than six months,” said the press release.
The vehicles were seized since the drivers failed to initiate the appropriate customs procedure for the import or temporary import of the vehicles.
The country’s current legislation permits citizens of North Macedonia and foreign nationals to temporarily enter and drive a foreign vehicle in the country for a maximum of six months, after which the vehicle must leave the territory of the country or the appropriate import procedures must be initiated, the Customs Administration said.
A criminal complaint will be filed in the relevant court in order to initiate criminal proceedings against the perpetrators, the Administration said.
