Currently no chance of getting close to two-thirds required to change Constitution, says Pendarovski

Skopje, 27 January 2023 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski believes there currently is no chance at all to get close to two-thirds majority in Parliament required to change the Constitution.

“The objective assessment today is that we cannot reach two-thirds to change the Constitution. We will see if something will change in the coming period. This will primarily be in convincing those who are now against it that when they come to power they will have the same problem if they want to join the EU, and if they are not in favor of joining the EU, it is fair to say it to the people,” Pendarovski told Telma TV.

He noted that including other nations to the Constitution will not disrupt the state, for example Montenegrins, Croats, not only Bulgarians, or possibly parts of the Jewish community. He mentioned Croatia as an example, whose Constitution includes 20 nations.

However, according to Pendarovski, the most important thing is that there are no megalomanic demands in the European negotiating framework, which has been agreed upon by 27 member states, including the Republic of Bulgaria. He believes that there will be no other framework for the negotiations, regardless of how long they will last.
