Croatia's HEP: Interruption of electricity supply in parts of Croatia caused by power outage that affected several countries

Zagreb, 21 June 2024 (MIA) - The interruption of electricity supply in parts of Croatia was caused by a power outage that affected several countries, Croatia's HEP power utility reported on Friday.

The Croatian transmission system operator is conducting an analysis with the system operators of neighbouring countries to determine the cause. All production capacities have been put into full operation for the Croatian transmission system operator to ensure supply of electricity as soon as possible, Croatian media outlets report.

According to Hina, there has never been a breakdown of the power system across four countries. Currently, dispatchers are engaged in intensive talks, state to state, to determine what happened and to come up with a recovery plan, because no state can be isolated in terms of power supply since they are all connected by transmission lines.

The cause is not yet known.

Major power cuts were reported earlier on Friday across Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Croatia.
