Budapest, 11 November 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Croatian Defence Minister Mario Banozic was involved in a fatal road accident in the east of the country, police said on Saturday.

The minister was injured and is being treated in hospital, a police spokesman told the news portal index.hr.

The accident occurred the previous day on the outskirts of the town of Vinkovci, where Banozic lives.

The minister's vehicle collided with a van for reasons still unexplained. The driver of the van was killed.

The authorities have not yet provided any information on who was at fault.
