Criminal Court says it has completed more cases in 2022 despite having fewer judges

Skopje, 21 February 2023 (MIA) – In 2022, the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje completed over 107,000 court cases, which is a record in the last 50 years, but the influx of about 110,000 new cases resulted in a minus of around 2,000 cases, which is also why the court was marked as “non-diligent” by the Judicial Council.

The Criminal Court said Tuesday they had 104,000 completed cases in 2021 and were assessed as “diligent”, while now with more resolved cases and less judges they’ve been assessed as a “non-diligent” court in the Report on the Work of Courts in 2022.

“We now have less judges and more completed cases. We should have 75 judges but currently have 46,” said the Criminal Court.

In terms of the citizens’ trust in the courts, the Criminal Court said that the increase in the number of cases could mean that the citizens trust the work of the courts. ad/ik/
