Criminal Court orders detention of eight people who took part in developments in front of Parliament

Skopje, 7 July 2022 (MIA) – The Skopje-based Criminal Court granted a request by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to detain eight people who participated in the developments before the Parliament on July 5, 2022.
The court ordered eight-day house arrest for seven people, while one suspect was ordered eight-day detention.
“We hereby inform the public that yesterday eight people were brought before a pre-trial judge at the Criminal Court who, after hearing the suspects in the presence of a defense attorney, decided to order house arrest for seven of the suspects and detention for one suspect, all for a period of 8 days in accordance with a request by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to conduct abbreviated investigation due to risk of escape and recidivism,” the Skopje-based Criminal Court said in a press release.
The parties have the right to appeal against the decisions before the Criminal Council.
Earlier, the Skopje-based Public Prosecutor’s Office launched proceedings against eight adults on the grounds of reasonable suspicion that they have committed a crime – participating ion a crowd that commits a criminal offence.
Of the eight suspects, six are aged 18-22, one is aged 30 years and one is aged 36 years. Three minors have been reported in the developments, for whom the proceedings will be conducted in line with the juvenile justice law.
