Covid-19 cases on the rise, Infectious Diseases Commission urges compliance with respiratory infection prevention measures

Skopje, 20 August 2024 (MIA) - The Commission for Infectious Diseases has determined an increase in the number of Covid-19 infections compared to the previous week and reminds the citizens of the need to respect the general measures for the prevention of respiratory infections, the Ministry of Health said in a press release Tuesday.

“Crowds and long stays in closed areas should be avoided, rooms should be regularly vented, people should wash hands more frequently and avoid close contact with people who are sick,” the press release said.

The Ministry stressed that vaccination is the most efficient way for people to protect themselves from more serious manifestations of the disease.

“At the meeting, the Commission reaffirmed that testing for Covid-19 isn’t a precondition for entry into a health facility. Covid-19 tests should be carried out exclusively based on indications, i.e., if the patient has symptoms typical for Covid-19,” the Ministry said.

At the meeting, the Commission noted that patients with separate conditions should receive treatment at the appropriate health facilities even if they are positive for Covid-19, with the facilities being obliged to minimize the risk of Covid-19 spreading to other patients and staff, by isolating positive patients.

The Commission is monitoring the situation and will adopt the appropriate recommendations based on future developments, the Ministry said.
