Covid-19: 8,675 active cases, 1,158 new infections, 19 deaths
Skopje, 19 August 2021 (MIA) — Over the past 24 hours, North Macedonia logged 1,158 new Covid-19 cases from 6,256 tests done in the country, and 19 people, aged 54 to 85, died from coronavirus-related complications, health authorities said on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Health citing Public Health Institute data, of the 1,158 new Covid-19 cases, 353 were diagnosed in Skopje. New cases were also recorded in Gostivar – 216, Tetovo – 122, Kichevo – 71, Strumica – 69, Kumanovo – 57, Struga – 42, Ohrid – 30, Kavadarci – 26, Debar – 20, Prilep – 19, Shtip – 15, Bitola, Veles and Gevgelija – 13 each, Kochani and Resen – 10 each, Sveti Nikole – 9, Kratovo – 8, Probishtip and Makedonski Brod – 6 each, Bogdanci – 5, Berovo and Vinica – 4 each, Radovish and Delchevo – 3 each, Valandovo, Demir Hisar and Pehchevo – 2 each, Negotino, Kriva Palanka, Krushevo, Demir Kapija and Dojran – 1 each. Of the 19 people who died from Covid-19 complications, 6 died in Tetovo (aged 54, 65, 74, 74, 74 and 84), 5 died in Gostivar (aged 66, 66, 67, 69 and 71), 3 died in Kumanovo (aged 54, 78 and 85), and one person died in each of the following cities: Skopje (aged 61), Strumica (aged 54), Struga (aged 60), Sveti Nikole (aged 83) and Valandovo (aged 85). Of them, 18 died in hospital, and one person died at home. In the past 24 hours, 166 people recovered from the virus. At the moment, 8,675 cases are active nationwide, of which 2,827 in Skopje. Since the onset of the epidemic, North Macedonia has performed a total of 1,086,075 tests, recording 165,684 Covid-19 cases and 151,401 recoveries. The death toll has reached 5,608. mr/
