COVID-19: 34.6% of samples test positive amid latest surge

Skopje, 2 September 2024 (MIA) — Between Aug. 26 and Sept. 1, another 131 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 of the 379 people who were tested for the coronavirus in the laboratories reporting to the Public Health Institute, the PHI said Monday in its latest release revealing a 34.6-percent positivity rate.

 

According to the official statistics, there were 1,392 registered cases of COVID-19 in 2024, and 16 people were reported as dying of COVID-19 in 2024.

 

Out of the people who tested and reported their coronavirus infections over the past week, the largest number (67) were from Skopje, followed by Ohrid (15), Tetovo (11), and Kavadarci (10).

 

SARS-CoV-2 infections were found in people of all ages but the largest number of reported cases were people aged 60 and older, the report said.

 

Since the beginning of the pandemic and the first registered case of COVID-19 on Feb. 26, 2020, according to PHI data, a total of 351,708 confirmed cases and 9,995 deaths from COVID-19 have been officially reported. mr/
