Skopje, 19 December 2024 (MIA) - Justice Minister Igor Filkov attended Thursday the promotion of the country's first guide on free legal aid in asylum procedures, drafted by the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, UNHCR and the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association (MYLA).
"I am proud that after a long period we are providing an important tool for access to free legal aid to help asylum seekers," Filkov said.
He stressed it is very important that for the first time this guide covers the rights and procedures for providing free legal aid to asylum seekers, those without restricted freedom of movement in regular procedures, emergency procedures, and those with restricted freedom of movement, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.
In the coming period, the Justice Ministry will work on simplifying the procedures for obtaining free legal aid, strengthening cooperation with NGOs in this field, and providing an online application system that will be available to all.
Effective access to justice, the press release adds, is the foundation of the legal system for everyone, and for the Ministry of Justice it is of key importance for strengthening law and justice in our society. ssh/ik/
