Country celebrates St. Clement of Ohrid Day

Skopje, 8 December 2024 (MIA) – North Macedonia is celebrating on Sunday the St. Clement of Ohrid Day – December 8 as a national holiday.

To mark the holiday, an awards ceremony will be held in Parliament for the 2024 St. Clement of Ohrid awards for outstanding achievement in education, culture, arts, healthcare and environmental protection. This year's St. Clement of Ohrid award recipients include university professor Maja Bojadzhievska, writer Milovan Stefanovski, artist Miroslav Masin and actor Refet Abazi. 

In addition, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova will address a formal academy on the national holiday "St. Clement of Ohrid", which will be held later today under her auspices at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence. 

Also, delegations from the President's Office, the Parliament, the Government, the Army General Staff, the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC - OA), as well as representatives of institutions, diplomatic corps and political parties will lay fresh flowers at the National and University Library’s St. Clement of Ohrid monument. 

Considered the patron saint of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, St. Clement of Ohrid will also be honored at churches nationwide.
