Country blocked by irrational and bilateral dispute: PM tells Salzburg Europe Summit

Skopje, 21 October 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski addressed Monday the 20th Salzburg Europe Summit dedicated to EU and reforms and said the country is blocked by an irrational and bilateral dispute.

PM Mickoski said a constructive and acceptable solution for all, free of blackmail and conditions, is needed in the dispute with Bulgaria.

"When it comes to delivery of results from abroad, we often got only words and not deeds. The results are missing, we only have tasks to fulfill. As time went by, people's frustrations increased because we again face another condition, another restriction. And now I have to stand before my citizens and say: look, we must change the Constitution yet again," said Mickoski.

According to him, Bulgaria has not implemented 14 judgments by the European Court of Human Rights to register associations of Macedonians living in the country, while on the other hand asking for the incorporation of Bulgarians in the Macedonian Constituton, which demonstrates an absence of will to approximate positions.

The PM said that even if Bulgarians are included in the Constitution, no one would guarantee this was the last requirement and that another condition would not follow in a six-month time.

"The Government is committed to finding solutuons and active dialogue. One of the solutions is to apply the formula that has already been seen in the Prespa Agreement, namely delayed implementation of the amendments until our EU accession, which represents a safeguard from subsequent demands," underlined Mickoski.
