Consumer and retail price index drops slightly in March: statistics

Skopje, 7 April 2023 (MIA) - The Consumer Price Index and Retail Price Index in March dropped by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, said the State Statistical Office on Friday.

A decrease in the Consumer Price index was registered in bread and cereals by 4.7%, milk by 4.6%, oils and fats by 2.4%, cheese and curd by 2.2%, fresh or chilled fruit by 1.2%, fish and seafood by 0.8% and eggs by 0.2%.

A decrease was also recorded in indices of passenger transport by air by 6.2%, games, toys and hobbies by 5.1%, liquid fuels for household by 2.5%, information processing equipment by 1.2%, fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment by 1.1%, footwear by 1.0%, equipment for the reception, recording and reproduction of sound and picture by 0.7%, major electric household appliances by 0.6%, motor cars by 0.4%, carpets and other floor coverings, household textiles by 0.2%.

An increase in the Consumer Price Index was registered in fresh or chilled vegetables other than potatoes and other tubers by 8.8%, mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices by 2.1%, coffee, tea and cocoa, wine by 0.8%, spirits by 0.7%, meat, food products n.e.c, beer by 0.6%.

An increase was recorded in the indices of gardens, plants and flowers by 6.8%, dental services by 4.3%, domestic services and household services by 4.1%, solid fuels for household by 3.8%, materials for the maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 3.6%, photographic and cinematographic equipment and optical instruments by 2.8%, bicycles, electric appliances for personal care by 2.5%, package holidays by 2.2%, spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment, accommodation services by 1.9%, therapeutic appliances and equipment by 1.8%, clothing materials by 1.6%, sewage collection, other personal effects by 1.5%, major tools and equipment, pets and related products by 1.4%, non-durable household goods by 1.2%, other articles of clothing and clothing accessories by 1.1%, repair of furniture, furnishings and floor coverings, stationery and drawing materials by 1.0%, furniture and furnishings, glassware, tableware and household utensils by 0.9%, other appliances, articles and products for personal care by 0.8%, small electric household appliances by 0.7%, restaurants, cafés and the like by 0.6%, garments, equipment for sport, camping and open-air recreation by 0.5%, services for the maintenance and repair of the dwelling, repair of household appliances, pharmaceutical products, paramedical services by 0.4%, water supply, other medical products, medical services, jewelry, clocks and watches by 0.3%, small tools and miscellaneous accessories, hairdressing salons and personal grooming establishments by 0.2%.

The Consumer Price Index in March, compared to the same month in 2022, increased by 14.7%, while the Retail Price Index increased by 10.7%.
