Consultations on French proposal resume, Kovachevski to meet Sela
Skopje, 4 July 2022 (MIA) – Consultations on the French proposal for the start of North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations are resuming on Monday, with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski set to meet with Alliance for Albanians (AA) leader Ziadin Sela at 11 a.m. The broad consultation process was launched with a meeting among Government coalition partners last Friday, whereas PM Kovachevski met yesterday with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, who deemed the French proposal unacceptable. The Security Council also discussed the proposal on Sunday, with President Stevo Pendarovski saying after the session that he finds it acceptable because it lifts the Bulgarian veto and allows for the formal opening of the accession talks after 17 years of waiting. The French EU Presidency delivered the proposal on June 30, after which PM Kovachevski announced a broad consultation process with all stakeholders – coalition partners, President, Parliament, opposition, civil society, experts and general public.
