Skopje, 30 May 2024 (MIA) – The Constitutional Court on Thursday will hold a session to elect its new president to succeed outgoing president Dobrila Kacarska, whose term ends on June 2.

According to the Constitutional Court’s rules of procedures, one of the court’s judges will be elected president with a two-third majority of the total number of judges in a secret vote.

In addition to Kacarska, other Constitutional Court judges include Naser Ajdari, Osmani Kadiu, Darko Kostadinovski, Fatmir Skender, Tatjana Vasikj Bozadzieva, Elizabeta Dukovska, Jadranka Dabovikj Anastasovska, and Ana Pavlovska Daneva.

Each judge can nominate a candidate for president of the Constitutional Court. 

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday giving a rundown of her three-year term, Kacarska said she is concluding her term with “a sense of completion, being guided by the idea that justice will always be an imperative.”

A Constitutional Court president represents the Constitutional Court, signs decisions and other acts of the Constitutional Court, monitors the implementation of the court rules of procedures among other things. After completing the three-year term, Constitutional Court presidents have no right to run for re-election.
