Skopje, 2 December 2023 (MIA) - The session on constitutional amendments has begun, the agenda has been adopted, and a discussion has opened in which all citizens were reassured that there were no objections to the proposed amendments. The process beyond December 31 remains ongoing. It will stay open until the commitment outlined in the negotiating framework is realized, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said on Saturday.

In response to a journalist's question about what will happen with the constitutional changes in light of the fact that the end of the year is the deadline for opening the chapters, Kovachevski pointed out that they are still on the agenda.

“The agenda has been adopted, and a discussion has begun, in which all citizens were reassured that there were no objections to the proposed amendments. The amendments were prepared by leading experts in the Commission established by the Government through the Ministry of Justice, with additional representation from political parties. Only, the opposition political party chose not to participate. Essentially, they are unwilling to engage in any process. They abstain from participating even in matters that concern them,” Kovachevski said during his visit to the ATS AMMO factory in Makedonski Brod.

He stands firm on the position that the process does not conclude after December 31. As he mentioned, this process is ongoing and will remain so until the commitment that North Macedonia has in accordance with the negotiating framework and the resolutions of the Parliament, adopted by a majority of MPs from the predominant political parties in the country, is fulfilled.
