Skopje, 14 February 2024 (MIA) – Parliament’s Committee on Election and Appointment Issues has scheduled a session at 1pm Thursday over the election of a new member of the State Election Commission (SEC). The Commission is currently operating with six out of seven members.

In a brief statement for MIA, Besa Movement MP Fadil Zendeli confirmed that SEC candidate Zulfi Adili, endorsed by the European Democratic Party of Arijanit Hoxha, has withdrawn his candidacy and that Abdush Demiri, supported by the coalition of the opposition parties of ethnic Albanians - European Alliance for Change, remains the sole candidate for the position.

The European Alliance for Change and its MPs have been boycotting Parliament for a longer period, because the other parliamentary parties couldn’t reach an agreement over the election of their candidate.
