Commemorating 23 years since ten army reservists killed at Karpalak

Skopje, 8 August 2024 (MIA) — To mark the 23-year anniversary of the tragic incident when ten defenders were killed in an ambush near the Prilep village of Karpalak on Aug. 8, 2001, delegations from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Army and Parliament will lay flowers at the village of Karpalak memorial and the memorial to the fallen soldiers in the center of Prilep.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the flower-laying ceremony will take place in Karpalak at 9 am and in Prilep at 1 pm.

The parliamentary delegation consists of Biljana Kuzmanovska, Mile Talevski and Pavle Arsoski, who will also lay fresh flowers at 1 pm at the Karpalak memorial in Prilep. 

The commemoration began on Wednesday and included municipality officials, army members, and family members paying their respects at the memorial to the fallen soldiers at the Mirche Acev barracks and visiting the memorial room with photos and mementos of the ten fallen reservists.

Also, a memorial service was held for them at the St. Petka monastery the Prilep village of Lenishte.
 
The ten army reservists who were killed in the August 8, 2001, Karpalak ambush were Sasho Kitanoski, Nane Naumoski, Branko Sekuloski, Marko Despotoski, Erdovan Shabanoski, Ljube Grujoski, Darko Veljanoski, Vebi Rushitoski, Goran Minoski, and Pece Sekuloski. mr/
