CMC: Oak, spruce, pine trees burning in fires across country

Skopje, 21 July 2024 (MIA) — In addition to several brushfires burning across the country, oak, spruce and pine tree forests have caught on fire as well, according to the Crisis Management Center in its latest report based on information from regional crisis management centers in Veles, Shtip, Ohrid, and Bitola.

 

The forest fire between the village of Gabrovnik and the village of Mokreni in the municipality of Chashka on Babuna mountain is still burning. The fire is spreading toward the village of Gabrovnik through inaccessible terrain so local authorities have called for help from the air.

 

National Forests Babuna Veles staff are joined by army members and local self-government employees in fighting the fire on the ground near the village of Mokreni. The fire has spread to Bisa toward the village of Bogomila.

 

There is no smoke from the forest fire on Goleshnica mountain at Lisec peak, between the villages of Upper Jabolcishte and Drenovo in the municipality of Chashka, according to the police officer on duty at Solunska Glava.

 

The new wildfire that erupted at Mukos in the municipality of Chashka can only be accessed by air, because firefighers would need to walk 30 km on foot just to reach the fire. The police officer on duty at Solunska Glava said there are three hot spots at Mukos and the fire is spreading toward the top of the mountain.

 

The forest fire between the villages of Farish and Raec in the municipality of Kavadarci has reignited. Five firefighters from the Kavadarci Fire Department with three fire trucks, three National Forests Bor Kavadarci staff with one vehicle, and several locals are battling the blazes.

 

The fire near the village of Kalanjevo in the municipality of Negotino has been brought under control. The Negotino Fire Department said there were no new fires today and their team was on the ground only to monitor potential hot spots.

 

The fire that broke out on July 12 near the villages of Selce and Puhche is still burning. Participating in the firefighting efforts are three firefighters from the Shtip Fire Department with one fire truck, five Serta hunting ground gamekeepers with one vehicle as well as six volunteers from Selce and Puhche. Water was dropped from the air two times. The Kochani Fire Department was asked to send a fire truck with four firefighters. Oak and spruce trees are burning in addition to dry grass and brush.

 

To put out the fire burning at the Krivolak military training ground in municipality of Shtip, the CMC has decided to deploy 30 Rapid Deployment Unit police officers and a team from the Protection and Rescue Directorate as well as at least 35 firefighters from Negotino, Sveti Nikole, Valandovo, Shtip, Vinica, Delchevo, Kratovo, Kriva Palanka, and Shtip with 21 fire trucks.

 

The pine forest fire near the villages of Tazhevo and Breznica in the municipality of Makedonski Brod is burning in an inaccessible terrain and spreading due to the wind. On the ground, 32 army members, three firefighters and one National Forests employees are trying to localize the fire, with no help from the air planned for the timebeing.

 

The second pine forest fire near Tazhevska reka in the village of Breznica has been brought under control and is monitored by two firefighters from the Makedonski Brod Fire Department and one National Forests employee.

 

The two fires that reignited in the village of Devich and the village of Slatina are smoldering and there is no need for firefighters on the ground. A firefighter from the Makedonski Brod Fire Department and a National Forests employee are patrolling the area at regular intervals.

 

The brush fire near the village of Nebregovo in the municipality of Dolneni that erupted on July 18 is moving toward Derven. Nine firefighters with one fire truck are battling the blazes.

 

The black pine forest fire at ​​Bogomila in the municipality of Chashka has crossed the road and is approaching the village of Gostirazhni in the municipality of Dolneni. Firefighters from the Prilep Fire Department have been sent to fight the fire. mr/
