Brussels, 8 November 2023 (MIA) – Crisis Management Center (CMC) director Stojanche Angelov attended the second meeting of senior Allied officials responsible for resilience at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, chaired by the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Addressing the meeting, the Secretary General underlined the importance of collective resilience to address the full range of threats NATO members, from pandemics and climate change, to armed conflict.

Allies discussed challenges to resilience across the Euro-Atlantic area, including the wider implications of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, underlining the need for enhanced societal resilience, and more effective cooperation between the civilian and military sectors and across governments, the Alliance said.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna addressed the meeting via video conference, highlighting the crucial role of national resilience in the defence against armed attacks.

Officials from the European External Action Service (EEAS) were also in attendance and provided inputs on how they are helping Ukraine strengthen its resilience.

The second meeting on senior Allied resilience officials follows the endorsement of the 2023 resilience objectives by NATO leaders at the Vilnius Summit in July.

In that regard, Stoltenberg urged Allies to continue their work to translate Alliance-wide objectives into their national resilience goals and implementation plans.

Annual meetings of the senior officials for resilience were established as part of the NATO 2030 agenda to better coordinate national resilience efforts and enhance consultations within NATO. ssh/nn/
