City Train project in three phases, to significantly cut use of vehicles in Skopje

Skopje, 4 January 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Sunday the City Train project is very important for Skopje, with the first phase of its realization already launched.

"The City Train is an extremely important project for the transport of people living in suburbs and other municipalities to downtown Skopje. The first phase has already been launched with the railroad rehabilitation works and its adaptation for an electric train. The project is worth Mden 360 million (EUR 6 million)," PM Mickoski told reporters.

He added that the project's implementation is expected to significantly cut the use of passenger vehicles.

"The first line starts in Zelenikovo, via Lisiche, Kisela Voda, Aerodrom to the Central Train Station. The second line is Miladinovci-Ilinden-Madzhari-Cental Train Station, while the third is Volkovo-Gjorche Petrov-Central Train Station. These routes will take the load off the traffic in the capital. Many citizens living in the suburbs and other municipalities will use these fast and comfortable lines, thus significantly cutting the use of passenger vehicles," noted Mickoski.
