City cleanup action begins

Skopje, 6 November 2025 (MIA) - A large-scale action to clean up Skopje kicked off Thursday evening at the Boris Trajkovski Arena. In front of the sports center, dozens of garbage trucks and street cleaning vehicles are ready to clean up the capital.

After taking office on Thursday, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski told reporters that the city cleanup action will begin this evening with the Boris Trajkovski Arena as a starting point. 

"In the next 72 hours, we will do our best to make the City of Skopje shine, as I practically promised my fellow citizens. In addition, mayors from the country will provide help, and vehicles will be included for street washing. After a long time, we will also wash the streets in the capital, the square will be washed tonight, the quay will be seriously cleaned and washed, so we will revitalize the public enterprises step by step, to bring them back to normal," said Gjorgjievski. 

At the beginning of the cleanup action, he stressed that Skopje must be a clean and dignified city.

"We have mobilized all services and in the next 72 hours we will show that this is possible," Gjorgjievski said.

Aerodrom Mayor Dejan Miteski, Kisela Voda Mayor Beti Stamenkovska Trajkoska, Karposh Mayor Sotir Lukrovski, Gazi Baba Mayor Boban Stefkovski and Gjorche Petrov Mayor Aleksandar Stojkovski, who gave their support to the joint initiative for a cleaner and tidier Skopje, are also present in front of the Boris Trajkovski Arena. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also attended the start of the cleanup action. 

He said in a Facebook post "a large-scale action to clean up the garbage in Skopje is taking place tonight" and added a photo from the start of the city cleanup.
