Beijing, 10 March 2023 (dpa/MIA) - China's People's Congress has awarded Xi Jinping an unprecedented third term as president.

As expected, the nearly 3,000 hand-picked delegates on Friday voted in favour of a further five-year extension to the president's term during the annual week-long meeting of the People's Congress in Beijing, a major Communist Party gathering.

State and party leader Xi, 69, had already overturned earlier age and term limits at the Party Congress in October, cementing his hold on power.
