Chief negotiators in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue due in Brussels: spokesman
Belgrade, 27 September 2021 (MIA) - European Commission spokesman Peter Stano said Monday that the chief negotiators in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will meet in Brussels this week, MIA reports from Belgrade. In a tweet on Sunday, EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Serbia and Kosovo need to unconditionally de-escalate the situation on the ground. “Any further provocations, unilateral or uncoordinated actions are unacceptable. The EU-facilitated Dialogue remains the only platform to address and resolve all open issues, he tweeted Stano said today that Borrell yesterday had a phone call with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The spokesman indirectly confirmed that US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar will be in Brussels next week to discuss the situation in Kosovo with European Union officials. Escobar took over from Matthew Palmer as the senior State Department envoy for Kosovo in August. Also on Monday, Serbian President Vucic met with Quint (United States, Great Britain, France, Italy and Germany) ambassadors and the Head of the EU Delegation to Belgrade. They demanded de-escalation of the crisis in north Kosovo, MIA’s Belgrade correspondent reports. President Vucic explained the position of Serbia, his office said in a press release after the meeting. “We are committed to preserving peace and respecting the Brussels Agreement, but in no way we will allow Serbia and its people to be humiliated,” he said. Serbs from Kosovo have been blocking the roads to the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings since last week. The roadblocks began when the government in Pristina sent Kosovo police special forces to Jarinje and Brnjak in order to implement the decision on confiscation and replacement of Serbian license plates.
