Skopje, 22 October 2024 (MIA) -- A delegation led by National Bank Governor Anita Angelovska Bezhoska and Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska will take part in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank 2024 Annual Meetings held in the US capital, Washington, until Sunday.
Governor Angelovska Bezhoska and Vice Governor Emilija Nacevska, who is also in the delegation, will meet with top IMF and WB representatives as well as other central bankers and representatives from the financial sector.
The discussions are expected to address, among other issues, problems of climate change and poverty.
"The World Bank Group, including IFC, is undergoing significant transformation to better address global challenges. The scale of these challenges is unprecedented, with nearly 700 million people still trapped in extreme poverty and an additional 1.2 billion youth in the Global South expected to enter the job market over the next decade.
"During these annual meetings and in the months ahead our priorities are to evolve the institution to deliver more impact, to use the private sector as a catalyst, to commit to climate action and sustainable development, to focus on fragile and low-income countries, and to develop meaningful employment opportunities and transform economies," according to an official press release.
During the meetings, the IMF is also set to present a new forecast for future growth in the global economy.
The Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and members of academia to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world's financial system. mr/
