Carovska: Reopening of schools in best interest of students
Tetovo, 19 August 2021 (MIA) – The Ministry of Education and Science abides by instructions issues by health authorities. If these change, the Ministry will adapt. Currently, the same rules apply nationwide, so we’ll continue to implement the same education policy at national level, Education Minister Mila Carovska said while attending with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev the opening of a new sports hall in “Aleksandar Zdravkovski” primary school in Jegunovce. In regard to who will decide whether students will or won’t attend classes, she noted that the decision will made by schools. “In these individual, rare cases, parents and guardians will have to talk to the school. Teachers and headmasters will have to make a decision about each individual request that is submitted,” Carovska underlined. The Minister stressed that it’s in students’ best interest to return to schools. This claim is backed by the UNICEF, the OECD, as well as the experiences of developed countries like Germany, the UK and Scandinavian nations. “North Macedonia is trying to implement a system based on protocols. The epidemiological situation at national and regional level is changeable and if the Commission changes its instructions, the Education Ministry will abide by new recommendations, as we’ve done so far,” Carovska said.
