Bytyqi: Living standard improving in the country, but we can’t expect to achieve EU standards in a day

Skopje, 17 March 2023 (MIA)  - The improvements and all the steps we take bring us to the end goal – a European Macedonia, but we must be realistic. We are creating opportunities, but it’s not negligible that people are looking for a better life elsewhere, said Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi.

“We want to see new jobs and higher salaries, but we can’t expect to achieve German standards right away. We’re improving the living standard, but it’s up for debate whether it’s happening as fast as we’d like it,” Bytyqi said in response to a journalist’s question about what the Government is doing to stop the brain drain from the country.

“I tell all our citizens who have gone abroad that we’re working to improve quality of life and that the country is finally on the right track, and that I expect them to come back so that they contribute to their country with their knowledge and skills,” Bytyqi said following a meeting with the director of TAV Macedonia, Metin Batak.

The system and institutions create the people, and we are all the people.

“We’re all responsible for improving the system and the institutions, as well as the overall life in the country. I believe that we should lead by example to improve the system, and if we follow this, I believe everyone can contribute to a quick improvement,” Bytyqi said. dk/nn/
