Bytyqi: Law on Solidarity Tax remains in force until Constitutional Court issues a decision

Skopje, 13 October 2023 (MIA) - The Law on Solidarity Tax remains in force until the Constitutional Court issues a decision whereby the companies covered by it should pay the tax, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi said Friday.

The government will respect whatever the Court’s decision might be, he told reporters during his visit to Mako Market Company in Skopje together with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski.

He stressed that it is not necessary to talk about what scenarios can happen until the Constitutional Court issues a decision.

“The truth is that the judiciary is independent and that any decision of the court is final. In a country with a democracy, respect for the laws and respect for the independent judiciary is imperative for the rule of law, so that any decision that will be issued by the Constitutional Court will be adequately implemented,” Bytyqi underlined.

The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia submitted on Thursday an initiative for commencement of a procedure assessing constitutionality of the Law on Solidarity Tax to the Constitutional Court, with a proposal to adopt a decision to stop the execution of individual acts and actions adopted on the basis of the contested Law, until the final decision is adopted.
