Skopje, 28 February 2024 (MIA) – The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi said he believes the legal amendments preventing the increase of the wages of officials should be adopted as soon as possible and described them as the best possible solution at the moment.
Regarding the wages of officials appointed directly by the Government which aren’t covered by the legal amendments, Bytyqi proposed that the management and supervisory boards of public enterprises adopt such a decision in case the government is unable to do so due to the Electoral Code.
“The initiative [for the amendments] of these six laws was submitted by SDSM’s parliamentary group. I honestly believe it should be adopted as soon as possible, for the rest we will see if it will be possible for the Government to make a decision, but my message to all directors will be, in line with their competencies, their management and supervisory boards, to do this by themselves if the Government isn’t in a position to make a decision because of article 8 of the Electoral Code,” said Bytyqi in answer to a journalist’s question on Wednesday.
The Deputy PM said they are holding consultations with the State Commission for the Prevention and Corruption over the legality of a government decision on the issue.
“We are holding consultations both with the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and the State Election Commission, and if it is legally possible, if article 8 doesn’t forbid it, this will be discussed at a government session,” said Bytyqi.
