Bulgarian President sets October 2 as parliamentary elections date, Galab Donev appointed caretaker PM
Skopje, 1 August 2022 (MIA) – Bulgarian President Rumen Radev issued decrees Monday dissolving Parliament and scheduling snap parliamentary elections for October 2, as well as appointing a caretaker government to be led by Galab Donev, Radev’s adviser, MIA’s Sofia correspondent reports.
The Bulgarian President’s Cabinet announced that Nikolay Milkov, Bulgarian Ambassador to France, will be the new Foreign Affairs Minister, Dimitar Stoyanov, the current head of the presidential administration, will be the new Defence Minister. Atanas Pekanov returns to the government as well, taking up the role of Deputy Prime Minister and will be in charge of managing European funds. Another familiar face in the caretaker government is Velislav Minenkov, who will lead the Ministry of Culture again, as he did in the last two caretaker governments. Ivan Dermendzhiev has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Dermendzhiev was Minister of Justice in the second caretaker government in 2021 and advocated for the dismissal of the Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, which is a key point for judicial reforms in Bulgaria, says MIA’s Sofia correspondent.
President Radev will present the caretaker government’s objectives and priorities Tuesday noon, at a ceremony in the presidential palace. ad/nn/
